As a wedding photographer, I love photographing a sparkler send-off! The soft, warm light from the sparklers illuminating the couple as they make their exit through their guests is magical! Sure makes for a beautiful photograph too! If you are planning a sparkler send-off, here are a few tips to help your experience flow smoothly:
Make sure your venue allows you to use the sparklers and if there are any stipulations concerning the use of them on their property.
When purchasing wedding sparklers you will want to choose non-smoke sparklers. You won't want to run through a cloud of smoke! Choosing a 36" sparkler will allow them to last long enough from initial lighting until you pass through.
Use a display to creatively let your guests know you are planning a sparklers send-off so they'll know to stay and participate. The more guests you have holding sparklers the better your photos will look!
As the photographer I usually help to line the guest up, giving you plenty of room to pass through. I instruct them to hold the sparklers up high enough to allow you to pass under without sparks touching your hair or dress!
Make sure you provide a means to dispense the sparklers after you leave. Some venues will provide a 10 gallon bucket of water or sand to safely drop the sparklers in to extinguish the sparks.
Sparklers can also be used for other fun photographs! I love to use the 10" sparkler for intimate shots with the wedding couple. There's no end to the creativity, but remember, safety first!
